KARACHI: The Halal stocks KMI 30 index plunged 34.93 points on Tuesday as market closed at 21,622.44 points as against 21,657.37 points, the closing figure of the previous session.


The volumes remained lower on first trading day of the week as the Halal index witnessed volumes of 17.542 million shares against 31.659 million shares traded in the previous session.

KARACHI: The Ferozsons Laboratories Ltd. (FEROZ) has reported a net profit after tax of Rs 160.50 million during period of six months against Rs 185.39 million recorded in same quarter last year, indicating a negative growth of 13 percent.


The Earnings per share (EPS) of the pharmaceutical company also decline to Rs 5.58 against Rs 6.45 in same period of preceding year.

KARACHI: Pakistan's inflationrate likely picked up to 10 percent in January from a year earlier as food and fuel prices continued to rise, a Reuters poll shows.


In December, consumer prices rose 9.75 percent from a year earlier.


"Fears of high inflation continue to remain in the medium term, while macro economic factors still remain vulnerable," said Nauman Satti, an analyst at Optimus Capital Management Ltd.

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet after a detailed review of the sugar situation in the country here on Tuesday allowed export of 100,000 tons of Sugar.


The ECC met with the Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in the chair. This decision was taken after a detailed review of the sugar situation in the country.

Besides, the Indonesian market, where at least 45,000 tonnesexport of the fruit was expected to be made after concluding the already approved Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), also remained untapped due to negligence of the relevant public sector, said Chief Executive Officer Harvest Trading Ahmad Jawad.

NEW YORK/TOKYO: Ratings agency Standard & Poor's warned it may downgrade "a number of highly rated" Group of 20 countries from 2015 if their governments fail to enact reforms to curb rising healthcare spending and other costs related to ageing populations.


Developed nations in Europe, as well as Japan and the United States, are likely to suffer the largest deterioration in their public finances in the next four decades as more elderly strain social safety nets, S&P said in a report. "Steadily rising healthcare spending will pull heavily on public purse strings in the coming decades," S&P analyst Marko Mrsnik wrote in the report.

DUBAI: First Gulf Bank, or FGB, on Monday declared an eight per cent increase in its net profit that reached Dh3.7 billion for 2011 and also recommended a 100 per cent cash dividend for its shareholders.


The bank’s net profit for the fourth quarter amounted to Dh1.02 billion, 18 per cent higher than same quarter of 2010 at Dh865 million, and 11 per cent higher than the third quarter of 2011. FGB has achieved consistent growth in net profit for the sixth consecutive quarter.

KARACHI: Pakistan cottonprices remain firm as exporters and spinners were less interested due to decline in business activities in international and local market.


Expected intervention by Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) was not welcome by Ministry of finance and commerce as both authorities are in favour of letting market forces determine cotton prices. The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) official spot rates were intact at the level of Rs 5,800 per maund. The rates of seed cotton in Sindh were Rs 1,800 and Rs 2,450, while in Punjab, cotton rates were Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,750 dealers said.

The quarter remained difficult for the company as it failed to maintain the past financial performance due to several unfavorable factors.

KARACHI: Foreign Investors' Portfolio Investment (FIPI) data reported by National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL) revealed that net inflow of $7.380 million or Rs 664.241 million was witnessed from Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) during the week ended on January 27, 2012 as compared to net foreign outflow of $3.718 million or Rs 334.694 million reported last week.
