Asia Coal-Australia thermal prices rises, China down

SHANGHAI: Australia's thermal coal rose above $116 a tonne in quiet trade, with market sources saying prices were likely supported by contract talks between Australian producers and Japanese utilities for 2012 term supply.
The $2 weekly gain in prices came despite weak demand from China and across the region, with benchmark prices in Europe also falling due to slow buying.
